We here at Stage 3 Motorsports would first like to apologize. Our selection of Mustang fuel injectors has been pretty dismal. Until now. We've just partnered up with Venom High Performance to provide some excellent fuel injector options for to Mustangs and to Mustangs that need uprated fuel injectors to support all of your high-powered modifications.

So, which complete set of fuel injectors is right for you? Well, that depends on your modifications, your desired level of horsepower, and the availability or desire to get custom tuning. The easiest way to explain injector needs is to break it all down by injector size.

These bad boys can support up to horsepower and are an excellent choice for stacking several mild-power adders onto your Mustang. Well, it's just peachy that the SN95 and Foxy Body guys get to wrench around with new fuel injectors while the S kids get stuck with the stockers.

The thing with the the newer generation of Mustangs is that they already come with larger injectors than the to Mustangs. New fuel injectors are really only needed for superchargers, and even they are packaged in complete kits that usually include fuel injectors and other upgrades. That being said, if you stack on basically every bolt-on modification we have, or you're more into a semi-DIY supercharger tuner kit kind of mood, then we do have a few Ford Racing fuel injectors that you may find useful.

While certainly not impossible, it does take a good bit of modifying to get there with bolt-on parts in a naturally aspirated set-up. Larger superchargers, turbo kits, and other moderately to high-powered Mustang performance parts are going to require even larger fuel injectors. Last, and certainly not least, we have the real big boys.

If things weren't complicated enough from an application standpoint, there's also an bit of issue regarding injector connectors and injector types. Even though they're technically different, either type of injector will fit across most to Mustangs, but will require a Ford Racing fuel injector adapter in order to connect. In general, an EV6-style injector is superior to an EV1 injector of similar flow rate.

EV6 style injectors have more nozzles and a more efficient internal structure that provides better fuel atomization over EV1, making EV6 swaps more common on older Mustangs. Still, if you're fine-tuning you fueling and feel that an EV1-style injector works to your advantage, go for it. Yay fuel injectors, and yay Stage 3 for finally having a decent selection.

Keep in mind that fuel injector swaps will require custom tuning or a BBK preprogrammed mass air meter for proper function.

Customized supercharger tuner kits and other high-powered upgrades may even require tuning on a chassis dyno in order to get the most power out of your unique setup and to avoid engine damage. Fuel injectors and high-horsepower, high-performance Mustang builds can get pretty complicated, so don't hesitate to contact Stage 3 directly with any questions or concerns.

Here are the issues and what had to be done to address them so far. Bullit CAI nor any other known aftermarket intake like JLT will work with it because of the entrance angle of the SC makes a sharp left turn to align with the stock Mustang intake.

Oh well we can solve that, we'll just ask Edelbrock to sell us their CAI that come with the Stage 2 kit no problem right? Wrong Edelbrock refused to sell us just the CAI. The Bullitt has the 88mm Throttle body which has a different bolt pattern than the stock GT 80mm throttle body. Adapters exist but the speed shop cautioned against it since it adds an extra gasket in there which could cause air leakage and the width of the adapter would make the alignment to the CAI strained.

Final solution to both issues. I purchased a stock Mustang GT take off CAI and Throttle body off of Ebay Second major issue, Edelbrock said after a few calls trying to address the above issues that they would not support the Bullitt so they would not send a tune file for the Bullitt or even the stock GT. So the Dyno tech effectively built one from scratch.

Semi final results: Before they started the supercharger install, I asked them to dyno the car stock. The result surprised the heck out of me and the guys at the shop.

Three pulls were within about 3hp and 3lb-ft TQ of each other with the best pull netting hp and lbs TQ. After the supercharger install was all buttoned up and custom tuned, the car produced hp and lb-ft tq at the wheels. And what are some of the differences between the different types, styles, etc. Not all injectors are equal, and choosing the right one is critical to power production, and drivabiity in any build.

DW offers several online calculators to help enthusiasts determine what injectors they need. One exception to this rule would be when making an upgrade in fuel injector technology.

DeatschWerks offers a variety of online calculators to aide in selecting the correct fuel injectors and fuel system components. A key factor in fuel injector performance is injector duty cycle IDC. IDC is the amount of time that a fuel injector is on or open.

Deatsch recommends data logging the IDC to determine if replacement is required. Deatsch recommends slightly lower duty cycles in racing applications than in street applications. This is largely due to the fact that most racing engine fuel injectors will spend the majority of their life operating at a high duty cycle. The calculators on the DW site can be used not only to determine what injector should fit a particular application but also the flow rate of that injector, how changing fuel pressure affects it, and what type of fuel pump is needed to feed the combination.

In street applications IDC of percent is the suggested cutoff for a variety of reasons. First off, excessively high duty cycles create a lot of heat in both the injector coils and injector drivers. Over a period of time, this heat can cause premature failure of both of these components. Secondly, injectors do not operate as consistently at high duty cycles. This will cause unpredictable, excessive fuel delivery and subsequently unstable air-fuel ratios.

While that often worked back then, we have a wider array of tools, and knowledge about fuel injection than was available 20 years ago. In addition to IDC a number of other factors that play into selecting the proper injectors include:.

Once you get as high as a 42 lb injector, you may find you need a custom chip burned or an engine management system. Don't forget to match your Mass Air sensor calibration with the proper injector.

What you or the next person can get away with all depends on your engine design, camshaft, timing, etc Most of us will never get an exact calculation for the combination we have, but the formulas will get us into the ball park we need to be in.

However, it's not really that simple. For starters, the engines computer will make every effort to correct any fuel that you add or subtract that differs from it's look-up tables while running in closed loop. When running in closed loop, the computer is constantly monitoring the oxygen sensors O2's and adapting to the O2 readings.

The computer will only compensate to a certain percentage. The computer is designed to adapt, learn, and create new tables based on what it learns during closed loop. This also allows the computer to adjust for sensor wear over the years, small engine problems, etc. At wide open throttle WOTthe computer is in open loop and the O2 readings are not part of the fuel ratio calculations. At WOT, the computer uses the learned adaptive tables from closed loop to kind of guess at the proper air fuel ratio.

This is one reason why tuning is very important.

2015-2020 Mustang Fuel Delivery & Injectors

The Mustang injectors are a high-impedance Increasing the fuel pressure will slow the injector's response time and alter its calibration to the mass air meter. If you've ever hooked up a fuel pressure regulator to the rail of a stock Mustang you should see approximately 30 - 32 psi.

Mustang Fuel Injectors: What Style Do You Have?

Making power can be boiled down to how much fuel and air you can mix together this is an oversimplification, but holds true nonethelesswhich is why a larger fuel injector will give you more power. All S Mustangs use an electric fuel pump to push the fuel from your tank to your engine.

The fuel pump goes inside of the gas tank and creates a positive pressure to send fuel from the tank, through the lines, up to the injectors, and into the engine. Going with a high PSI fuel pump is a necessity for boosted application as you will need more fuel to get your ride ripping, and also avoid serious engine issues due to lack of fuel. Unfortunately, there are not a whole lot of fuel pump options available for the S Mustang, but there are a few designs in the works.

You can also go with a custom fabricated fuel pump or one that is modified to work with the S, but you have to be careful about quality and overall performance. Stick to your major manufacturers. S Mustang fuel rails are the connecting point between your fuel line and your fuel injectors. The line feeds into the rails, which then distribute the fuel evenly to all of the injectors. Replacing the fuel rails on your Mustang will allow you to flow more fuel into your engine by using a larger diameter design.

Upgrading the fuel rails on an S Mustang is really only needed if you are starting to push above HP, otherwise you may actually incur a negative effect on your performance mainly the car will run too rich. Fuel filters go in somewhere in between your tank and your fuel rails, as part of the line assembly and filter out any harmful pollutants in your fuel. Mustang fuel filters typically need to be replaced as part of routine maintenance as they will rob you of power over time, the dirtier they get.

As soon as you start to upgrade the fuel system on your Mustang you will need to upgrade the tune. To guesstimate how much power you may pick up from upgrading your fuel system and tuning it is almost impossible. It comes down to what parts you upgrade it with along with who you use for a tuner and how aggressive of a tune you go for. You can pick up anywhere from 30 HP — HP depending upon a litany of factors. As mentioned above, it is really difficult to accurately say how much power you can pick up from upgrading your fuel system.

On a naturally aspirated car you can pick up anywhere from HP and on a boosted application you can pick up anywhere from HP. Upgrading your fuel system is dependent upon your goals for your build.
